Chicago's Annual Salon Series presents an educational interactive workshop with SALLY MAYES, SPIDER SALOFF CARLA GORDON and BECKIE MENZIE on Saturday, Feb 11th 11:30am to 3:30pm

Teaching a Master Class Together for a limited number of students, and up to 10 auditors

(Location TBA to registrants only - There will be a 30 minute lunch
break at 12:30pm) - Lunch is not provided with registration.
This is a rare opportunity to work with New York based performer Sally
Mayes directly who recently appeared off-Broadway to rave reviews in PLAY
IT COOL and THE BEST IS YET TO COME in this years (2011) New York theatre season!
In addition, students will work with Spider Saloff who is
both an accomplished performer who tours with her many self contained concerts and a one woman musical theatre piece THE ROAR OF THE BUTTERFLY, will help
students with phrasing and share vocal improvisational skills.
Also, students will receive feedback on comedy skills, special
material and discuss how to build relationships with Chicago media
with valuable insight from songwriter and cabaret journalist Carla
Gordon joins the panel of teachers.
Students selected through the registration process will be asked to
prepare and bring sheet music for two contrasting cabaret or musical
theatre style songs and also provide four copies of the sheet music,
one for the pianist and one for each of the three teachers.
Auditors will observe these three remarkable perspectives work with
registered students, and learn essential tools to crafting remarkable
cabaret performances. Auditors will be able to observe the artistic
process of creation.
Sally, Spider and Carla will work with students on
many elements including, but not limited to, performance, interpretation,
musical arrangements, parodies, and also to explore how an artists work is
perceived by a Chicago based cabaret critic .
Beckie Menzie is scheduled to play piano for this class.
The class also includes a Q&A session and is open to the general public!
Audition to participate as a student is not required. However you will need to prepare at least two songs and have sheet music in your key for the class.
To Audit, absolutely no preparation is needed. Auditors take part in the Q&A.
