An intricate web of salons with collectables to explore and cosy corners to relax in with a drink and a friend or two. During Cabaret Month 2012 this very special show plays Chicago for Katerina's Supperclub (March 19) and also an intimate event for the Lake Shore Salon Series (March 20).  Deep In A Dream has played at The Castro Theater in San Francisco, CA and at Chicago's famed Green Mill in 2009.  New York Times Best Selling Author James Gavin will be joining with some of my favorite artists and the author himself to celebrate in spoken word and music Deep In a Dream, James Gavin's biography of jazz giant Chet Baker. James Gavin, a contributing writer to the New York Times since 1992, has been published in Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, TV Guide, JazzTimes, Town & Country, and other periodicals. His second book (DEEP IN A DREAM) went into its second printing in its first five weeks. It has been covered in the London Times, the New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, the Wall Street Journal, and numerous other publications. James Gavin has been interviewed on NPR a dozen times, including by Terry Gross, and will do his fifth interview for the BBC this month. The European printing of "Deep In a Dream" will appear in October. James Gavin has been featured on television from Coast to Coast, as well as over one hundred newspaper reviews in support of Deep In a Dream. He has written liner notes for over 300 albums, including Ella Fitzgerald: The Legendary Decca Recordings, which won Gavin a Grammy nomination in 1996. Gavin recently wrote STORMY WEATHER: The Life and Music of Lena Horne which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in 2010. Joel Selvin of the San Francisco Chronicle says of the new book: "Immediately engaging … finely crafted … savagely honest … impeccably researched. Elegantly written." The book has already been optioned by Columbia Pictures, and Leonardo DiCaprio has expressed interest in portraying Chet Baker in the movie version.

According to owner-actor Joe Reynolds, the "M" stands for music, martinis and mangia (Italian for "eat"). Enter through red velvet drapes to find a speakeasy-like interior dripping in dramatic red, from the vinyl booths to the server's micro-miniskirt. The crowd is eclectic and the mood is bohemian--low lighting, high artistic vibe.

Spider Saloff is All Gershwin at Sandwich Opera House on August 21st

SANDWICH, IL — Critically-acclaimed and nationally-recognized jazz singer Spider Saloff will perform at      7 p.m. with Jim Sellers at the piano on Saturday, Aug. 21, in an effort to help raise funds for Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St.

Admission is $20 per person and include the concert and dessert. A cash bar also will be available, as will a $15 ticket available for those who do not want dessert and coffee. Tickets for the benefit can be purchased in advance by calling 815-786-2555.
